[Double Feature] 1922

6/29/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: I am at the point now, as I’ve probably surpassed 400 reviews in our short time together, DFP readers, where I fear repeating myself at times. Some of my favorite subjects in horror...
Shannon: For this film, I actually took notes (which is something I really need to start doing again so I have things to remember to talk about on these review posts). Basically, a man and his son...

[Double Feature] Creep 2

6/27/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: When I last saw the movie Creep, I was so excited that I went out and bought it on DVD so that I could share it with my friends. When I read the Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass were planning...
Shannon: It's pretty often that an original movie, in this case Creep, does well enough to push a sequel. It's also pretty often that the sequel just can't live up to the original and kills any good...

[Double Feature] American Assassin

6/25/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: In a world full of James Bond, Jack Reacher, Jason Bourne, and a myriad of other near superhero agents, I’m not sure why we need Mitch Rapp in film. Sure, there’s the fact that he’s based...
Shannon: Dylan O'Brien takes the lead in this assassin movie where he plays a young man, scorned, who wants revenge on the terrorists. The beginning scene is very dramatic and sad. It opens...

[Double Feature] Professor Marston and the Wonder Women

6/22/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: I, for one, did not know exactly what I was getting into with Professor Marston. With the huge advent of the third spoke in the DC Comics Trinity, a large amount of the population was introduced...
Shannon: Wow. This movie was something. Tells the story of Professor Marston, his wife, and their mistress as he is inspired to write and create Wonder Woman. The film touches on many aspects...

[Double Feature] The Monster

6/20/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: Horror may be one of the best genres in film for allowing metaphors to propagate across its screens. Whether we’re talking about male roles with Colossal, chaos theory with The Purge...
Shannon: On one hand, we have the screwed up single mother (played by Zoe Kazan) who almost reminds me of the mother in The Florida Project, but not THAT messed up. And on the other...

[Double Feature] The Autopsy of Jane Doe

6/18/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: André Øvredal. If you don’t know his name, particularly among the horror community, I’d learn it. He’s the director of a little watched but terrific film (one of my favorite monster movies)...
Shannon: The title of the movie is the entire description possible. A couple corner’s cut into the body of a Jane Doe and strange things happen. In the scheme of things, I can see why someone...

A Wish For Giants is an independent film sent to us by stuntman Joe Fischel. The film is based off a book, written by Aaron Dunbar (he also wrote the screenplay) and is directed by Don Swanson. The film concerns a little girl (Alexa Mechling) diagnosed with a brain tumor who is contacted by a “Make A Wish” type foundation. Her wish: To see a live Bigfoot.

[Review] Maturing Youth

Happy Father’s Day weekend everyone. As a father myself, and a son, I’ve spoken before about how my father has had an effect on me. I rarely talk about my own sons, but suffice it to say they are more important than any film could ever be to me. So, it was nice that the short I got to review today encompassed some of these themes. Today’s film is Maturing Youth, sent to us by Jennifer Meyer at R&F Entertainment. Roger, played by Sean A Kaufman is living the slacker’s dream

[Review] We are the Best

6/18/2018

Picture

by David

So a while back, I watched a movie called Sing Street that blew me away completely. As I sat and hummed “Drive It Like You Stole It”, I happily googled movies with similar themes. Along with director John Carney’s older films, like Begin Again, I found this film out of Sweden concerning itself with the formation of a young punk band. It’s called We Are The Best, and while I didn’t love it, it’s certainly an average coming of age film.

[Review] Tag

6/14/2018

Picture

A movie about a group of grown men playing a game of Tag. The idea is interesting, and the fact that it happened in real life is interesting, but how can this be a movie? Well, those were my thoughts ahead of time. A little wary on if it would be worth a watch, or one of those movies that’s drawn out because it only focuses on one thing. But Tag is great. It’s so much fun to watch, completely entertaining, and I found it really funny. Most of the jokes were corny ones, but those are the ones that get me laughing out loud and all.

[Double Feature] The Beguiled

6/12/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: The Beguiled is both a remake and a brand new film. There was an original film from 1971 starring Clint Eastwood, but that film is so different in so many subtle ways that director Sofia...
Shannon: I did not know what to expect from the vague description this movie has on IMDB. I could guess what the plot would be, and for the most part I was spot on with what happens when a...

[Double Feature] Flatliners (2017)

6/8/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: I’ve taken a long time to try and write this film, because frankly it made me upset at how bad it was. The idea of a Flatliners remake sounded awful, but at one time, Kiefer Sutherland...
Shannon: Science Fiction Thrillers are always intriguing to me. This particular film is a remake from a film of the same title that starred Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts...

[Double Feature] The Orphanage

6/6/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: There’s an anatomy to horror films that I think most casual viewers don’t understand. There is a lot of work that goes into making someone scared. If you only show reactions, you...
Shannon: First of all, I watched this movie the same day as Platoon, and I almost fell asleep in this one as well but didn’t because I truly wanted to see what was happening. The Orphanage is ...

[Double Feature] Suburbicon

6/4/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: Because Shannon loves Matt Damon, we will probably work through his entire filmography at some point. On one hand, he’s been in some damn good movies – Good Will Hunting...
Shannon: Again, I judge a movie by it’s cover. Suburbicon did not exactly have the plot that I was looking for or expected. For some reason, I had it in my head that this was like John Wick...
