[Double Feature] Colossal

4/30/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: Kaijus, and monster movies in general, are obviously very close to my heart. I love the large scale, global threatening type movies, as well as the smaller ones, like Gremlins, which we’ll...
Shannon: Gloria (Anne Hathaway) is a drunk and a party girl. One day, her boyfriend has enough and kicks her out - she is forced to move back to her childhood home. There, she reconnects...

[Review] Monty Python and the Holy Grail

4/26/2018

by David
David: First, allow me to open with a whole-hearted thank you. First out to our very trusted reader, Nubs, who took the time to send in a request for this film. Second, I’d like to extend...
Shannon: This review does not exist, because I did not watch the movie. Nor will I ever watch this movie. Sorry not sorry. I'm drawing the line.

[Double Feature] American Made

4/24/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: I remember when this hit theaters last year. I also remember it doing a decent amount to make back its US budget, but really nothing else besides that at the box office. American Made...
Shannon: American Made is a biography film that tells the story of Barry Seal, a pilot who becomes a drug runner for the CIA in the 1980s. Apparently, this operation became known as the...

[Double Feature] Coco

4/24/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: Coco starts off fairly quickly – Miguel wants to play music, but his family doesn’t even allow music. And despite the quickly approaching Dia de Los Muertos, Miguel is unable to...
Shannon: I've had this blu ray sitting in my movie collection since it was released. Finally, I was able to watch it for the first time and my first impressions were that it was super cute and...

[Review] I Feel Pretty

4/18/2018

This is the first movie that I’ve seen starring Amy Schumer. I’ve always been a little off put by her and never really been interested in seeing something she was in. However, when I saw the trailer for this movie, I felt like it was going to have a good message to women and it looks fairly entertaining. So I was a little pumped to see this advanced screening.

[Double Feature] Safety Not Guaranteed

4/18/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: For those of you that don’t know Mark Duplass – what’s wrong with you? Star of Creep and Creep 2, and The League, and also helping run a production company with his brother, Duplass...
Shannon: Warning. This movie is NOT a comedy. I honestly have no idea how IMDB can deem this movie as a comedy. Perhaps because the main characters are all played by comedians? I was...

[Double Feature] Hunt for the Wilderpeople

4/16/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: I’m a pretty big fan of more offbeat comedic movies. Taika Waititi, who we most recently reviewed in Thor: Ragnarok, is a director that continues to make a career out of that...
Shannon: This movie is basically a Moonrise Kingdom, but the romance is replaced with a father-son like relationship growth. So a young, troubled boy goes to live with a foster family and...

[Double Feature] Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

4/13/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: I was among the loudest detractors when I heard that this was going to be a movie. Even when the director cast current comedy duo Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, I was still worried...
Shannon: As a kid, the original Jumanji movie scared me. It wasn’t until I was adult that I watched it again and found that I actually loved it. Robin Williams and the kids playing a game...

[Review] Truth or Dare

Picture

The minute I heard of this movie and watched the trailer I knew I wanted to see it. Knowing that it was from the same producer of Happy Death Day left me a little wary of the film, but it also comes from the producer of Get Out so my expectations were on the fence and only seeing the film would have been able to sway me on the good or bad side. Well, after seeing the film, I can’t say that I’m swayed either way.

[Double Feature] The Host

4/11/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: Allow me to tell you an embarrassing story, and why it’s important to double check things and talk about dates and such. Shannon and I make a watch list, and then parcel it out throughout the year along...
Shannon: Starring Saoirse Ronan as Melanie/ Wanderer/ Wanda, this movie is a dystopian story line where humans have been taken over by aliens and their bodies used as hosts. When one of them...

[Review] Rampage

Going into this screening, I knew only a few things about Rampage. That is starred Dwayne Johnson and that it was about genetically altered animals wreaking havoc on a city. Sounds interesting enough for me to put my butt in a theater seat, but I was a little wary as to the content of the film and if it would even be a good plot. Well, let me just start off by saying, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

[Double Feature] Beyond the Gates

4/9/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: I’ll defend 1980s horror to absolutely anyone. It’s my favorite horror decade. I see it as some of the best practical gore (along with the tail end of the seventies) that ever existed. I love that...
Shannon: Beyond the Gates has an interesting feel to it. Based off a board game, two brothers find a VCR game in their missing father’s office and begin to play. This board game involves...

[Double Feature] Bushwick

4/6/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: Ever heard of Bushwick? Me either, which is kind of surprising (am I losing my touch, Dear Readers???). Shannon, however, picked me up on this one and threw it onto our watch list...
Shannon: Aside from the non stop action in this movie, I just was not a fan. Snow plays Lucy and Bautista plays Stupe, two random people that decide to work together to get to safety in a war...

[Review] Blockers

4/5/2018

Picture

by Shannon

The synopsis kind of speaks for itself. It’s a comedy starring Leslie Mann, John Cena, and Ike Barinholtz, three parents who follows their daughters around trying to stop them from making bad decisions… at least that is what they are telling themselves the whole time.

Being a comedy, there are things that happen (that happen in almost every comedy these days) that make it funny but not technically hilarious. Yes, I found myself laughing numerous times throughout the film, but I have to ask myself - was I only laughing...

[Review] A Quiet Place

4/4/2018

Picture

by David

From the opening moments of A Quiet Place, you’re immediately struck by just how silent everything is. The padding of feet across a floor, the muffled breaths, it all sets you up immediately for later explosions of sound. The trailer tells you exactly what you’re in for – a tightly wound horror flick from none other than John Krasinski – following last year’s Get Out with a directorial debut in horror from a known comedian...

[Double Feature] Thor: Ragnarok

4/4/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: For the past few Thor movies within the MCU, we were treated to a wonderful interpretation of a god on Earth. It’s something that Chris Hemsworth excelled at – he has the right gravitas...
Shannon: I am a little disappointed in this film. For some reason, the Marvel writers decided to turn this movie into a comedy, much like Guardians of the Galaxy, instead of focusing on what I...

[Double Feature] Gerald's Game

4/2/2018

by David
by Shannon
David: When I heard that Stephen King’s book Gerald’s Game was going to be adapted to a Netflix, I was extremely concerned. I didn’t love Gerald’s Game like I loved some of King’s other books...
Shannon: The minute I saw the dog I knew I was in for a very anxious movie watching experience. I didn’t expect the anxiety to come from the humans rather than the dog however. Gerald’s Game...
