David's Oscar Predictions 2019

2/24/2019

Hello everyone and welcome to the Academy Award predictions here at DoubleFeaturePreachers.com! There’s a lot of people that have already done their predictions (Shannon included) but as usual, I’m slacking. However, I wanted to ensure I put a lot of thought into the predictions, and so even though I’m down to the wire, I feel good about my predictions. I’m not wasting any time here, let’s get right to the big one!

Best Picture:
Bohemian Rhapsody
The Favourite
Black Panther
BlacKkKlansman
Green Book
Vice
A Star is Born
Roma

This is an extremely varied Best Picture race, and let’s year’s winner The Shape of Water makes it a bit harder because the Academy awarded something that I didn’t think they would award. So that opens it up a bit for something like Blackkklansman and Black Panther, but I think the usual ones are going to come forward. I think Roma has an EXCELLENT shot to win; however, I’m thinking that it will pull Best Foreign Language film and so I think it’s going to get hit for the top honor. There are a few I don’t think stand a chance, but I’m not going to detract them.

David’s wish: A Star is Born. It hit me super hard and I couldn’t get over it. I’d also totally be alright with The Favourite winning.
David’s Prediction: Green Book
Picture
Best Actor:
Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born)
Willem Dafoe (At Eternity's Gate)
Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody)
Viggo Mortensen (Green Book)
Christian Bale (Vice)

I think there are only two horses in this race – Malek and Bale. This is unfortunate, because a lot of these performances are very good – with Mortensen probably being the weakest despite a terrific turn as Tony Lip. I’m going to go with:

David’s Wish: Bradley Cooper – again, I’m just struck by this movie, and it would have been nothing without him as Jackson Maine.
David’s Prediction: Rami Malek

Best Actress:
Lady Gaga (A Star is Born)
Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?)
Olivia Colman (The Favourite)
Yalitza Aparicio (Roma)
Glenn Close (The Wife)

This race is one of the toughest of the night. I think there are plenty of reasons you could give the edge to any of them – Gaga has a dynamite performance as Ally, McCarthy is going against type, etc. But all in all, I think it’s going to come down to Close and Colman. And the winner is:

David’s Wish: Olivia Colman
David’s Prediction: Olivia Colman

Best Supporting Actor:
Adam Driver (BlacKkKlansman)
Mahershala Ali (Green Book)
Sam Rockwell (Vice)
Sam Elliot (A Star is Born)
Richard E Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?)

Probably the weakest category for me – I’m going totally all in on Richard E. Grant’s Cinderella story with this one.

David’s Wish: Richard E. Grant
David’s Prediction: Richard E. Grant

Best Supporting Actress:
Emma Stone (The Favourite)
Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk)
Rachel Weisz (The Favourite)
Marina de Tavira (Roma)
Amy Adams (Vice)

This for me is where I ended up being the most conflicted: my heart tells me Rachel Weisz, because she seals The Favourite – but my head is telling me that Regina King just has too much momentum. And the winner is:

David’s Wish: Rachel Weisz
David’s Prediction: Regina King
