STARS: Bill Pullman, Ben Stiller, Ryan O'Neal, and Kim Dickens
RUN TIME: 1 hour, 56 minutes
Zero Effect stars Bill Pullman (Daryl Zero) and Ben Stiller (Steve Arlo, his assistant). Zero is a renowned private investigator that is always about to find out who/what he is looking for. In this movie, he is trying to determine who is blackmailing a businessman by the name of Gregory Stark (no, this has nothing to do with Ironman, sorry guys). The strange thing about Detective Zero is that no one, with the exception of Arlo, knows who he is or what he looks like. Arlo is the face of the PI business and does a lot of leg work for his boss, including traveling from city to city for what seems like no reason.
Well, Zero starts his quest to find the blackmailer, and this is what the movie consists of. It's interesting to watch the way that he works. It's like he is able to determine all outcomes of what is about to happen, and quickly is able to narrow down to one suspect, a woman by the name of Gloria.
sense to me. She is his daughter, the one that he never knew he had, so why is she blackmailing him? From the movie, it seems like Stark had her mother killed when she was a small child. I'm not sure if this was ever really proven through his detective work, but I'm thinking that is what happened. Gloria found out that Stark was her real father, and the man that raised her was actually the hired gun.
Liked Its & Hated Its:
It was extremely slow moving, including the dialogue. I felt like it took two people FOREVER to have a conversation, and all the scenes were drawn out to be way longer that they probably needed to be. Though I liked how Daryl Zero did his detective work, seeing things like Monk saw them (I always loved that show)
Stiller and Pullman played their roles well I think, but overall this movie was just "Okay." This movie just didn't have qualities that kept me interested.
